How to make the most of your footer

The SharePoint footer constitutes an integral part of your environment. There, your users are able to access relevant links and/or features that would, otherwise, force them to scroll to the top of the page. 

BindTuning themes offer a fully customizable footer, allowing you the flexibility and ease-of-use, to further enhance your users' experience and engagement.

Modern Experience

After deploying your BindTuning theme on your Modern site, you're able to modify its respective footer. To do so, follow the steps below: 

  1. Access your SharePoint site and select Edit;
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, until you find the theme footer. 

You will notice that the theme offers eight default zones, allowing you to input both text and respective URL.

Furthermore, when expanding the footer drawer, you'll find several other zones, which you're also able to further customize. 

Those same footer zones, and unlike the default link zones. support HTML, further enhancing the options and features available for customization.

After the customizations have been performed, proceed to Republish the page.

Classic Experience

Depending on your BindTuning theme installation method and/or SharePoint version, the modification instructions will vary. Below, you'll find all the respective scenarios and correlative processes. 

SharePoint Online, 2013, 2016, and 2019 SandBox Solution

If you have installed your BindTuning theme as a Sandbox Solution, follow the steps below in order to modify your theme footer:

  1. Open the site using SharePoint Designer
  2. Go to All Files > _catalogs > masterpage > THEMENAME > select the master in use;
  3. Find the Footer Zones and add the HTML code for that zone;
  4. Save the file, check-in, and publish as a major version.

SharePoint 2013, 2016, and 2019 Farm Solution:

If you have installed your BindTuning theme as a Farm Solution, follow the steps below in order to modify your theme footer:

  1. Go to and open with a text editor:
    • SharePoint 2013:C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\THEMENAMEPackage\MASTER_IN_USE.master
    • SharePoint 2016:C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\16\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\THEMENAMEPackage\MASTER_IN_USE.master
    • SharePoint 2019:C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\16\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\THEMENAMEPackage\MASTER_IN_USE.master
  2. Edit the masterpage in use;
  3. Find the Footer Zones and add the HTML code for that zone;
  4. Save the file;
  5. Refresh your browser using CTRL + F5;
  6. If changes are not immediately visible, reset your IIS.

SharePoint CSS Only

If you have installed a BindTuning CSS Only theme, follow the steps below, in order to modify your theme footer:

  1. Go to Site Settings and click on BindTuning Settings;
  2. At bottom of the page, click to open the panel that says Content Zones;
  3. Find the Footer Zones and add the HTML code for that zone;
  4. Save the Bindtuning Settings page.
