When applying a template to an existing Site Collection or Microsoft Team using the overwrite option, our system ensures that the new structure and content are integrated smoothly, while minimizing disruption to your current setup. Here's a breakdown of what to expect for each type of content:
🧩 Microsoft Teams
Tabs
Tabs with matching names in a channel will be replaced.
Any custom configuration on those tabs may be lost if not part of the template.
🌐 SharePoint Site Collection
Pages / Page Templates
Existing pages with the same name as those in the template will be replaced.
This includes any default homepages or custom layouts.
Lists
If a list with the same name exists, it will be replaced with the one from the template.
Existing list data may be lost, so make sure to back up critical information beforehand.
Notebooks
Notebooks with matching names will be overwritten.
The existing notebook will be replaced entirely by the version in the template.
Document Libraries
Files within document libraries will be checked by name.
If a file with the same name exists, it will be replaced by the one in the template.
Document Templates
Templates are matched by name and file extension.
Matching templates will be overwritten.
Content Types
Content types with the same name will only be replaced if they are not currently in use in the site collection.
If a content type is in use, we will not overwrite it to avoid disrupting existing lists and libraries.
Instead, the system will update the existing content type, adding any missing site columns while preserving compatibility with current data structures.
⚠️ Important Considerations
- Always back up important content before applying a template with overwrite.
- Overwrite is intended for controlled updates where consistency is needed across environments or teams.
- Review the template structure carefully to avoid unintended replacements.
